Shawn Johnson was born in Casper, Wyoming and lived there for the first twelve years of his life. At age 12, Shawn's family moved to the Denver area for work, and it was here that he joined the Colorado National Guard as a junior in high school. Soon after joining, Shawn was deployed as a combat medic during the initial invasion of Iraq in 2003, where he received many medals and commendations, including three separate army medals for treating wounded enemies. His actions while serving abroad allowed American forces to gain access to valuable intelligence and succeed in their objectives. After one year of active duty in a combat role, Shawn came back stateside and moved back to Casper in 2007 to take a job offer from the Natrona County Sheriff. Today, Shawn lives with his wife, Rebecca, and their three children. He holds the rank of Corporal with the sheriff's office and has received their Life Saver Award for performing CPR on an inmate saving his life. Shawn was elected to the Casper City Council in 2014, reelected in 2018, and held the office of Vice Mayor in 2019. Shawn has been an avid government accountability watchdog while on the Casper City Council and will continue to be if elected to the state legislature.
