Steven W. Fisher was a judge of the New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second Department. He has served on this division since May 3, 2004.[1] He was retained to the Supreme Court by voters in 2006.[2][3] He passed away on December 18, 2010 at the age of 61.[4]
Education
Judge Fisher was born in New York City. He received his B.A. degree in Physics from Queens College in 1968 and his J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1972. He also holds certificates from Moscow State University (1966) and The National Judicial College (1996). He is now married and has two grown children.[1]
Career
Judge Fisher began his legal career in August of 1972 as an Assistant District Attorney in Kings County. He worked in this capacity through 1976 and then became a founding partner of the law firm Rhodes, Baker & Fisher. He left the firm in July of 1979 to clerk for Milton Mollen, who was the Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division. In 1983, he became a Judge on the New York City Criminal Court. He then worked as an Acting Justice of the Supreme Court for Kings County from January 1, 1986 to December 31, 1989 and the Acting Justice of the Supreme Court for Queens County from January 1, 1990 to December 31, 1992. He took office as an elected Supreme Court Justice for Queens County on January 1, 1993. From 1998 to 2004, he also worked as an Administrative Judge for the 11th Judicial District of the Supreme Court.[1]
