Castaneda won re-election to the South Bay Irrigation District to represent District 1 in California outright after the general election on November 8, 2022, was canceled.

Castaneda was a 2013 Democratic candidate in the special election for District 80 of the California State Assembly.[1]

Castaneda ran in a special election for California State Assembly District 80. The seat was vacant following Ben Hueso's (D) election to the California State Senate on March 12, 2013. Castaneda was defeated by Lorena Gonzalez (D) in the special election, which took place on May 21, 2013.[1][2][3][4]
