The South Dakota Ban Corporate Hog Farms Initiative, also known as Initiative 3, was on the November 8, 1988 ballot in South Dakota as an indirect initiated state statute, where it was approved. The measure prohibited any corporation except for a "family farm corporation" from owning or operating a hog confinement facility. The measure broadened the definition of "family farm corporation" to include any corporation formed for farming purposes in which the majority of stockholders are resident family farmers.[1][2]
