Soo Y. Yoo is a member of the ABC Unified School District school board Trustee in California, representing Area 2. She assumed office in 2013.

Yoo (Republican Party) ran for election to the California State Assembly to represent District 67. She lost in the general election on November 8, 2022.

Yoo is the Trustee Area 2 representative on the ABC Unified School District school board in California. First elected in 2013, Yoo sought a new term in the general election that was scheduled to be held on November 7, 2017. Due to lack of opposition, however, the election was canceled. Yoo was re-elected to her seat by default.[1]

Before she was elected to the board, Yoo unsuccessfully ran for a seat in 2011.

Yoo's work experience is in academic counseling. She earned a bachelor's degree from University of California Irvine and a master's degree in Westminster Theological Seminary.[2]

Three of the seven seats on the ABC Unified School District school board in California were up for by-district general election on November 7, 2017. In her bid for re-election to the Trustee Area 2 seat, incumbent Soo Y. Yoo ran unopposed and did not appear on the ballot. She was re-elected to the board by default. Newcomer H. Ernie Nishii won the Trustee Area 3 seat, defeating incumbent Lynda Johnson, former candidate Daniel Fierro, and former member Armin Reyes. The race for the Trustee Area 6 seat included former candidate Louise Dodson and newcomer Olga Rios. Rios won the seat.[1][3][4]

Results

This election was canceled due to lack of opposition. Incumbent Soo Y. Yoo was re-elected to the board by default.[1]

At the time of this election, the Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk did not publish school board candidate campaign finance reports online. Ballotpedia staffers requested this information, but the only free method of viewing the files was at their office.

The Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk targeted the end of 2018 to make school board candidate campaign finance reports available online for free. From that point forward, Ballotpedia began including campaign finance data for Los Angeles County school board candidates.[5][6][7]
