Ryan Ferns (Republican Party) was a member of the West Virginia State Senate, representing District 1. Ferns assumed office on January 14, 2015. Ferns left office on December 1, 2018.

Ferns (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the West Virginia State Senate to represent District 1. Ferns lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.

Ferns served in the West Virginia House of Delegates, representing District 3 from 2010 to 2014. Originally elected as a Democrat, Ferns switched his party affiliation to Republican on November 25, 2013.[1]

Biography

Ferns earned his B.S. in business marketing and a doctorate in physical therapy from Wheeling Jesuit University. When he served in the state Senate, his professional experience included working for Genesis HealthCare as a physical therapist and serving as the president of Ryan's Rentals, LLC.[2]

Elections for the office of West Virginia State Senate consisted of a primary election on May 13, 2014. The general election was on November 4, 2014. The signature-filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 25, 2014. Incumbent Rocky Fitzsimmons was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Ryan Ferns was unopposed in the Republican primary. Ferns defeated Fitzsimmons in the general election.[4][5]

Ferns won re-election in the 2012 election for West Virginia House of Delegates, District 3. Ferns and Shawn Fluharty advanced unopposed in the May 8 Democratic primary election. Ferns and incumbent Erikka Storch (R) defeated Fluharty and Larry Tighe (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[6][7][8]

Ferns was elected to one of two positions in District 3 on the ballot in the November 2, 2010, general election. He was opposed by Republicans Erikka Storch and Dolph Santorine and Democrat Shawn Fluharty. Only the top two vote-getters were elected.[9][10]
