Biography
Paul Torkelson earned a B.A. in education from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1974. Torkelson's career experience includes working as a farmer.[1] He served as the vice president of the Minnesota Farm Bureau.[1][2]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. James Kanne was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Paul Torkelson was unopposed in the Republican primary. Torkelson defeated Kanne in the general election.[7][8][9]

Torkelson won re-election in the 2012 election for Minnesota House of Representatives District 16B. He was unopposed in the Republican primary on August 14 and defeated James Kanne (D) and Pike Pagel (I) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[10]
