I am a middle school social studies teacher and have lived in Connecticut for most of my life. I am also an Eagle Scout and strongly believe in the idea of civic responsibility and that is something I try and teach my students. I want to advocate for my community by pushing for affordable housing, making healthcare more affordable and preserving our enviornment
Making Connecticut more affordable by providing more affordable housing, lowering the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs. I would also like to see improvements in gun laws and more support for public education.
An elected official must possess several key characteristics and principles to serve their community effectively. Integrity is essential, as the public must trust that their representative is honest and transparent, always acting in their best interest. Accountability follows closely; officials must be responsible for their decisions and actions, ensuring they answer to the people they represent. Empathy is another critical trait, enabling officials to genuinely understand the needs and challenges faced by their constituents, allowing them to craft policies that improve lives. Dedication is also crucial, as public service requires a deep commitment to solving problems and enhancing the well-being of the community. Fairness is vital in ensuring every decision is equitable, treating all individuals with respect, and ensuring no one is left behind. Finally, collaboration, a key trait, is essential to navigating the complexities of governance, as it involves working with others to build consensus, achieve goals, and make meaningful change, thereby highlighting the importance of teamwork. A balance of these traits allows an elected official to lead effectively and create a positive impact for the people they serve.
An elected official's core responsibilities include representing their constituents' interests, creating and supporting legislation that benefits the community, ensuring transparency and accountability in government actions, and advocating for policies that promote social, economic, and environmental well-being. Additionally, they must be responsive to community concerns, work collaboratively with other officials, and prioritize the long-term growth and success of the district.

The United States faces several significant challenges over the next decade. One of the most pressing is climate change, which will intensify through extreme weather events and rising sea levels, affecting every aspect of life. Addressing sustainability, renewable energy, and infrastructure adaptation is crucial. Economic inequality also poses a significant threat, with the growing wealth gap straining social cohesion. Expanding access to affordable healthcare, education, housing, and fair wages is essential for a more equitable society.
Additionally, political polarization continues to deepen, making it difficult to address critical issues. Bridging divides through meaningful dialogue and restoring trust in government will be vital. Lastly, as global challenges like pandemics, cybersecurity, and international conflicts evolve, the U.S. must maintain solid international partnerships and address human rights and security to continue its leadership on the world stage. These challenges require bold, comprehensive solutions and collaborative efforts across society.
I believe term limits can be beneficial in promoting fresh perspectives and preventing political stagnation. They ensure that new leaders with innovative ideas have the opportunity to serve while also avoiding the accumulation of power that can sometimes lead to complacency or corruption. However, term limits alone aren't a solution to all issues in governance—what matters most is electing representatives committed to serving their communities, regardless of how long they hold office.
Yes, compromise is both necessary and desirable for effective policymaking. In a diverse society like ours, differing viewpoints and interests are inevitable. Compromise allows us to find common ground, fostering collaboration and enabling us to address pressing issues more effectively. It encourages dialogue and understanding, essential for building relationships across party lines and among constituents. Ultimately, compromise can lead to more balanced and sustainable policies that reflect the needs and values of a broader population segment, ensuring that no one group is disproportionately favored or disadvantaged.

I am particularly interested in serving on legislative committees that align with my priorities and experience, including Education, Housing, and Labor & Public Employees. As a teacher, I understand education's critical role in shaping our future, so I want to work on policies that ensure equitable access and resources for all students. Housing is another crucial issue—providing affordable and accessible housing for all residents is essential to tackling inequality and economic stability. Lastly, as a union member and advocate, I am passionate about strengthening workers' rights, supporting fair wages, and ensuring safe working conditions. These committees provide an opportunity to address the key challenges facing our district and the state.
Financial transparency and government accountability are essential to maintaining public trust and ensuring that elected officials serve the best interests of their constituents. Transparency in budgeting and spending allows taxpayers to see how their money is used and ensures that resources are allocated efficiently and fairly. Government accountability means holding leaders responsible for their decisions and actions, preventing corruption, and fostering a culture of openness and honesty in public service.

Scorecards

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
