The Nebraska Increased Term Lengths and Limits Amendment will not be on the November 8, 2016 ballot in Nebraska as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. The measure would have increased the length of terms for legislators from four years to six years. Also, the term limits requirement would have been increased from two consecutive four-year terms, a total of eight years, to two consecutive six-year terms, a total of 12 years.[1]

The amendment was sponsored in the legislature by Sen. Paul Schumacher (NP-22).[2]

The Nebraska Senate was required to pass the amendment by a 60 percent vote to place the proposed amendment on the ballot. It was defeated in a 22 to 20 vote on April 13, 2015.[3]
