I can't find the ruleset for Worlds 2016, but this is from 2015:

If three or more teams are tied, the head-to-head record of

all teams against all other teams involved in the tiebreaker Version 1.01; July 7, 2015 14 will be considered. If a single team owns a winning record (as defined as winning more than 50% of the games) against every other team in the tiebreaker, they are automatically granted the highest seed available in the tiebreaker (therefore winning the tiebreaker), and a new tiebreaker is declared amongst the remaining teams (i.e. head-to-head record between the remaining teams).

Riot didn't hire him for Worlds.

Taiwan never had 3rd seed and I don't think they can give a league as small as LMS, 3 seeds even though LMS did show at last worlds, EU was better in worlds 2015

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL do you remenber msi 2015 when TSM played like scrubs and get 5 th place ? but even they get 5th place they still were in the pool 1 , i dont understand , i know G2 underperformed at msi but its was also the same for TSM in 2015 so i dont know why we give EU's firt seed pool 2 ???????? why tsm got pool 1 last year so ?

I still think a Death Group must have EDG or ROX at it's head, AHQ is the best pool 2 team after koreans and chinese, same team with same members that played S5 worlds, only to lose to SKT at quarter-finals

Its like the same thing with KT roster, they both (Lyon and Kt) deserve to be at worlds because they made a great season.

You are not the best, unless you beat everybody, it´s simple, everyone who saw that match against Albus Nox, can say Lyon wasn´t better than the russian team, the matches were close, but Latin America fans are not watching what happens in the games. Lyon players are very skilled, but really bad at strategic/psichological levels, they just win games when they are ahead. We will see next year, hope they get to mature their weak points.

They were the best at Bo1s, at Bo5s INTZ and Albus were the best teams, even DP was better than Lyon because of that cheesy poke comp they used, Lyon relied too much on player skill and that's not all it takes to win Bo5s

Actually, the best wildcard team is Albus, but in my opinion Lyon deserves to be in worlds with them not INTZ, INTZ got really lucky to play against DP. Albus is playing really good now, INTZ only 1 good game and their last games were just awful.

You do know Dota2 teams don't get paid by valve every season just for being part of a league like Riot does right?

Pool one is for the highest seed from the four regions that made it out of the round robin at MSI. Riot figures that these teams are the best and puts one in each group so they all make it to tournament.

Basically if your region has a slot for pool 1, you want your team to be in that pool because it avoids the best teams from the other regions in the group stages. So TSM won't play Edward Gaming, Flash Wolves or ROX Tigers for certain. Meaning in theory they should have an easier time to get through the groups stage and into the quarter-finals since they won't have to play against the top teams from other regions except maybe EU due to them losing the pool 1 slot in MSI. But that depends on the draw for the group stages. Pools 2 and 3 don't really make a difference, its just that 8 teams are in pool 2 and wildcard teams and 2 others are always in pool 3.

LMS should've got a 3rd team and INT should get just 1. INT basically change whatever group they're in into a group of 3... unless it's already a group of 2 with 1 bad team from a major region, either way super boring and predictable.

I like having wildcard teams in the tournament, since it gives a chance for minor regions to get a team into worlds. Also yeah, LMS region should have a 3rd team there is no reason why they should not. Personally, I would expand the tournament to have more teams involved. Something like 3 teams for each of the 5 main regions, then 1 or 2 teams for the minor regions plus maybe wildcard slots for countries/teams that don't really belong to any of the regions above to help round out the tournament. That way you got a better chance of seeing a wildcard team progressing through the tournament, the major regions still likely to have teams to cheer for into the latter stages, while helping to develop the pro scenes in the minor regions.

Yeah but MSI is not the only deciding factor, China made it out of groups last worlds and NA got stomped in groupstage, they've also reached the grand finals 3 years in a row.

YES China did slightly better than NA last World, but these are not the factors to determine the seeding rules in Riot's own ruling and implication on their website. I think it's only fair to determine by the results in MSI. Unless Riot now says MSI rules doesn't affect on the seeding of World 2016, which is unlikely

Absolute crap, MSI is one tournament where each region only gets one representative team, Placing the seeding for ALL 3 teams on the performance of ONE team in one tournamnt is riduculous, lets look at the NA region right now, TSM are strong but they're so far ahead of the rest of their region that while they may do well at MSI that isn't representative of how good the 2nd or 3rd teams would be from that region, so why should their seeding change based on how good the number 1 team is?

Personally i'd rather seeding was done by regions performance at the previous worlds rather than use MSI at all because it's a shitty way to do things, but riot want their spring split tournament to "mean something"

Don't kid yourselves. You talk too much about NA pool this and that. NA will never get thru group stage. NA best would be Quarter finals. World Finals will only be for Korea or China.

I never said the NA region was good, i just used them as an example of a region with a large disparity between their top team and their other teams. If we'd been having this conversation last year i'd have used Fnatic, if we'd been having this conversation in 2013 i'd have used SKT. rankly i think the only person kidding themselves is the person who thinks China is going to make it out of groups this year, their region has been trash for so long, a result of importing Koreans and trying to force things to fit instead of developing their own style. They sucked last year and they'll suck again this year, will probably still be a Tigers-SKT final, but i'd like to see a team from Either LMS or EU put up a good fight in the semi's.

Although CLG got 2nd place, I think most people agree they weren't the second best team at the tournament. It was pretty obvious by the end that SKT was the best team there (in the end), but also that RNG was more than likely the 2nd place team in essence. If it was CLG who vs SKT in the semi's and lost then they would have been 3rd and RNG would most liekly be 2nd. It was more so luck that RNG was forced to face SKT in the semis rather than the finals. In the end any placing below first at MSI is fairly subjective, so you can't really base much off of MSI apart from who wins and who made it to semifinals.

I agree. Riot said that MSI was the factor to determine the seeding pool, that 4 champions from top 4 region (LCK,LCS NA EU, LMS) will be in pool 1. But LCS NA was the runner-up in MSI, LPL only advanced to the semi-final, so I think the slot of NA in pool 3 should be of CHN. And anonymous #4, you said that TSM is not strong enough, LCS NA don't deserve the second slot in pool 2, okay, may be you're right, but you can't deny that CLG did TOO WELL in MSI, or at least better than LPL, if you still try to deny that, and they represented for LCS NA in that tournament, which was chosen to be the factor to determine the pool in World. So I think if Riot gave LMS a slot in pool 1 due to the performance of FW, they ought to give LCS NA the second slot in pool 2 due to CLG's better-than-LPL performance in MSI Shanghai 2016.

I think the only way you could put China in the 3rd seed due to only getting to the semis rather than the finals and you want to make a change based on who gets 2nd/3rd then you would have to have made RNG vs Flash Wolves to determine who's 4th and then have the winner (assuming RNG) vs CLG (loser of finals) to truly determine who is actually 2nd at the tournamnet. It most likely would have been RNG who won and withtain their 2 2nd seed team, but if MSI should have more impact then that's how it should be done. I think more people are saying that MSI has too much impact now, but I do understand why Riot have done this to the extent that they have and not taking it further.

So they should have changed the pool of C9 and iMay who ended up in the same group anyway.

The 3rd seeds from EU and NA were always there, in the pool 3, I don't know the exact reasons for that, but, historically, KR and LPL always did better than the rest, since they appeared in Season 2, where Team WE won the IPL, a long and complicated tournament and the region usually reached the higher stages:

2 times runner-ups of the World and qualifying all their teams until they faced other LPL teams, like in Season 4, where SHRC eliminated EDG and then OMG, LPL teams eliminating their own teams, the same in Season 3, Royal Club eliminated OMG, just like Korea use to do with their own teams.

LPL also were runner-ups in previous All Stars, 2013 & 2014, which back in 2013, it was the equivalent to the current MSI and it defined the seeds and pools for WC 2013 and then LPL won the MSI 2015, where EU and NA always fell behind in Riot tournaments, only reaching a 5th to 3rd place as a whole region. Even in their best seasons, they only reached quarterfinals (NA in S4) and semifinals (EU in S5).

In the recent MSI, it was probable that RNG'd have reached the final, if they'd have faced FW or CLG in semifinals, in the head-to-head record in MSI, RNG were 2-0 against FW and RNG was tied with NA, where RNG just threw away their victory; they disrespected CLG and then CLG, which always were trying their hardest took the offer and capitalized that final chance to win that match.

Korea and LPL remain the two regions which never lost against a WildCard team, where even the Champions/1st seeds from the other regions did and in one case, it cost them their qualification and when that exact thing happened, all their teams were eliminated in the group stage, EU in S4 and NA in S5, except the LMS, which qualified all their teams to quarterfinals in S5, finally, the 3rd seeds from EU and NA never were relevant, thus, being in a pool along with the WildCards, it is correct.

Wow Anonymous #24, I understand what you are talking about, but what make you sure that if Riot had put C9 in pool 2 and IM in pool 3, the result would have been the same? And Anonymous #26, you talked about the result of China and NA in the history again. I said that MSI 2016 was the factor to determine the pools in World. That's why FW has a slot in pool 1, which used to be of EU #1 seed, just because their result in MSI. And I agree that China had done much better than NA in the history of World. But EU had done the same thing with Taipei region, right? So why did they lose their slot in the pool 1? And you mentioned the reason why RNG was eliminated in the MSI semi-final is that they had to fight against SKT. For God that's the most stupid thing I have ever heard. So could SKT reach the final if they had to fight against FW, who always defeat them. SKT was just the 4th-placed team, anyway, while RNG was the #1. That's the format, you have the first place, and you only have to face the worst team in the group stage, that's your advantage. But you couldn't take it, that's your fault, you can't blame for a stupid reason that your enemy was too strong.
