IAAF World Half Marathon Championships Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Sunday 12 October 2008
The IAAF World Half Marathon Championships was awarded to Rio de Janeiro (BRA) by the IAAF Council at its meeting in March 2006 in Osaka (JPN).
Rio de Janeiro has about 6 Million inhabitants. It is located the south east of Brazil with its worldwide famous beautiful beaches like the Copacabana and the Botafogo.
The climate at the time of the Championships is hot with the average temperature about 29°C and average humidity of 60%, no rain.
Course description
The course will be a point to point course, made up on an asphalted area. The course description will available in due course.
The start area will be at the end of the beautiful São Conrado beach and the finish area will be situated in front of the Cuauthemoc Statue at the Cualthemoc Square.
Training venues
The São Conrado beach, which will be closed for public for two days prior to event.
Warm-up
A large warm-up area (150m long and 6m wide) will be available at the start area.
Timing and results
Transponders were used as the official timing method in Debrecen and Udine, and will be used in the same way in Rio de Janeiro for the 3rd edition of the IAAF World Road Running Championships.
