Diplomatic Relations

The Republic of Moldova established the diplomatic relations with Austria on March 25, 1992.

At the level of the President

• 1996 — Working visit to Austria of the President of Republic of Moldova, Mr. Mircea Snegur, Austria
• 1997 — Mr. Petru Lucinschi, President of Republic of Moldova, participated in Salzburg at the Economical Summit of central and eastern Europe, Austria
• 2003 — Mr. Vladimir Voronin, President of Republic of Moldova, participated in Salzburg at the 10th meeting of the heads of states from Central Europe, Austria

At the level of the Minister of Foreign Affaires

• 2004 — Working visit of Mr. Andrei Stratan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of RM to Vienna, on the occasion of participation at the International Conference “The Chances of the new neighbors of EU: Moldova and the Ukraine” (The conference was organized by the Institute for Danube Space and Central Europe, together with the Paneuropa-Bewegung-Austria Society and cultural Union “Kaisersteinbruch”), Austria
• 2005 — Working visit of Mr. Andrei Stratan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of RM to Vienna, on the occasion of participation at the annual evaluating conference on OSCE security, and at the conference “European option of the Republic of Moldova”, which took place at the Diplomatic Academy Vienna, Austria
• 2000 — Working visit of Ms. Benita Ferrero-Waldner, President of OSCE, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Moldova

Between the Republic of Moldova and Austria were signed 9 bilateral agreements out of which 5 entered into force.

Commercial – economic cooperation

In 2005 the total volume of the trade with Austria was 33,56mln USD. In 2005 Moldova’s exports to Austria totaled 11.7mln USD, which increased in comparison with 2004 (10.03mln USD).

The imports from Austria to Moldova also showed an increased index (21.8603mln USD that is compared to 14.06mln USD in 2004). In the Republic of Moldova work some Austrian enterprises such as “Austrian Airlines”, the bank “Raiffeisenbank”, the insurance company “GRAWE”.
