Open Society Foundation (OSF) is an independent and autonomous UK registered charitable company limited by guarantee and was set up in 2002. It works with a number of international charities which are members of a network co-ordinated by the Open Society Institute (OSI) based in New York. The Foundation Open Society Institute Zug, a Swiss charitable foundation, is the major funding source for OSFs activities.
OSF determines its resource requirements in a 3 year financial planning process, and on an annual basis the Trustees consider and approve their detailed plans and budget and submit them to be considered for further funding. Once the annual funding is approved, the Trustees empower the Chairman to monitor, control and ensure delivery of the plans within the resources available.
Day to day control and decision-making is delegated to the Managing Director (Admin) and the various Programme Directors, who provide periodic financial performance statements to the chairman and also to all meetings of the Trustees.
