The Da Vinci Code plot

"Seek the truth"

In Paris, Professor Robert Langdon misses an appointment with the Louvre curator because he was murdered shortly before. Langdon is the main suspect, not least because the man wrote his name on the floor before he died. He realizes that the curator has left clues that only he can decipher: symbols that refer to Da Vinci's works. Aided by an agent, Langdon flees and begins the search for the motive for the murder and the involvement of Opus Dei. Because the Catholic Church in particular is not waiting for the solution. Meanwhile, the police and the killer are on their tail...

“Nobody hates history. They hate their own histories.”

Meticulous book adaptation of The Da Vinci Code. Ron Howard stands for solidity, and that's how you can describe this film. The book is neatly translated to the silver screen, and the script is ingeniously put together and it is explained quickly.

The book was sometimes overly explanatory, and the film doesn't always escape that. There is so much information scattered about the viewer that it can sometimes be a bit much. And then the film is also very long, with an ending that reminds of Lord of the Rings. But there was no end to it. Tautou, Hanks (with terrible hairpiece), McKellen and Bettany do a great job, even if their roles are sometimes very thin. It doesn't get exciting anywhere, but as an adventurous treasure hunt, The Da Vinci Code is more than successful.

ah.

Somehow I had managed to avoid this film so far. Heard a lot about it, so high expectations, a nice cast with Tautou, Hanks, McKellen. And adapted from a bestseller (I've never read it, by the way, but you expect something).

And it turns out that it really sucks. Worse, pretentious bagger. The story is appallingly bad - the crazy stupid puzzle that fits neatly together every time, phew. And of course, both the heroes and the baddies can enter anywhere without any restrictions, day and night, without anyone looking at all strange. Sorry, with suspension of disbelief alone I really can't manage this, you have to be a completely crazy conspiracy nutcase to want to hear this kind of BS. That is also the only thing the film has to bring: hard evidence that Dan Brown has been behind QAnon all along, because there are way too many parallels. Over there.

Then some more. Tautou is mostly downright bad, Hanks is really bad too - he's always been a little mediocre except when he's allowed to show his usual good heart. Reno and Bettany are doing just that little bit better, and McKellen could have done better, but hardly gets any space. In terms of images, I also find it very little, and the soundtrack is way too bombastic and constantly irritating.

It's really a mystery to me how it is possible that this film has drawn full houses, and where the best high score comes from. I think it's an indescribably bad piece of shit.
