The Wonder plot
Lib Wright is a British nurse who is told a strange story in the year 1862. Young Anna would fast for months and still be in good health. Is she a miracle or is something sinister going on? Lib takes care of Anna.

Good film in which a nurse is asked to keep an eye on a young girl who is not eating. An original and layered story about (super) belief and storytelling. The film is set in the English countryside in the mid-19th century. Slow and a bit long-winded, but still intriguing. A narrow 3.5 stars.

Nice slow film, but I found it a bit too slow, could have been a bit shorter, but otherwise I could absolutely enjoy it. The beautiful dramatic Irish landscape and of course the magnificent acting of Pugh.....

Strange opening scene that immediately reminded of von Trier's Dogville (Film, 2003), but it didn't go that fast. No idea what exactly was the purpose of that and when I was in the film, I had completely forgotten that beginning. Nice role from Pugh who really broke through a few years ago with Midsommar and Little women. Don't worry darling is therefore high on the wish list, because here in The wonder she also draws all the attention with an excellent performance.
As a very stubborn and decisive nurse, she takes her observing task to heart. Observation (empiricism) is one of the most effective ways to approach an experiment or research. She is therefore faced with the task of disproving the impossible and proving that it cannot be done.
Interesting and at the same time sad observation that the faith professed by fanatics has something inscrutable and can be very dangerous. When you assume that life on earth is temporary and above all subordinate, many horrors can be glossed over or justified. In that respect, I found the film very interesting to follow. Great setting also of a foggy and drizzly village in the middle of the Irish highlands. It only reinforced the already mysterious one. Fine film, but those looking for action and thriller elements should go elsewhere. Only the ending and the nurse's trick was a bit too easy for me. I don't understand how they can screw it up when there's no body...
