I thought this was a good Shyamalan. He actually knows how to continuously create a subcutaneous tension. Perhaps it is also because of the rest of his oeuvre that you are always waiting for something unexpected. Also because you already know from the trailers that Hartnett's character is not completely clean.
In that respect, Trap is fairly conventional and focuses mainly on Hartnett and his ways to find a way out of the stadium. This in a setting in which Shyamalan actually shows his disgust for these types of artists and concerts. Especially when Hartnett looked around and saw everyone diving into their cell phones. He really plays wonderfully freaky and in that respect Hartnett really steals the show.

The ending is something that Shyamalan sometimes gets wrong, but in that respect it is solid and the film doesn't go wrong anywhere and it gets the ending that you hope for while watching the film. Not very pronounced and therefore not special. But nice for an afternoon at the cinema.

I'm a fan of Night (an authentic director with his own style who always stays close to himself), that may make a difference, Trap certainly didn't think it was bad. Good sub-topper in his oeuvre, there are enough starting points to admire him. The director often shows a masterclass in suspense building here. Also funny to recognize: not only do the various characters play a cat and mouse game, you gradually get the feeling that the director also does the same with the viewing audience: Hartnett plays the friendliest serial killer in film history, which makes it it is difficult for the viewer to muster the appropriate disgust for him. But that is the trigger that Night has chosen, I think: will the audience hope that this man gets his due or will they actually grant him an escape?(that last thought is quite gruesome if you think rationally). thinks). It's great that this is just a raw straight forward story, without the addition of clumsy fantasy elements this time, unfortunately this story could have been taken from life. There are a few too many unbelievable twists in the last 20 minutes or so (the miraculous escapes of the Butcher), but that shouldn't spoil the fun. More than enough, next time I will be sitting in the front rows again in the premiere week of a new Night, but he remains the man who can somewhat approach Hitchcock's level.

Strong thriller from this idiosyncratic director who always comes up with something original, sometimes more successful than other times. The screenplay of Trap is cleverly written by Shyamalan himself, believable, in an original setting and always unpredictable. Well directed too: the tension is maintained for a nice long time in a number of scenes in the second half of the film. And a good role by Saleka Shyamalan, his daughter, who has written her own songs.

Stay seated during the credits for a nice encore!
