"Discover how it all began."
The sequel to the first film shows both the events that follow and those that preceded the hotel on the Greek island. In the past, we meet a younger Donna who enjoys life to the fullest. We follow her romantic escapades when she crosses paths with Sam, Harry and Bill. After a while the romances turn out not to be all roses and moonshine. In the present, a pregnant Sophie struggles with her mother's absence.

Not everything Björn and Benny wrote for ABBA was brilliant, as this sequel shows. Some songs are simply not strong enough, others are filmed as video clips, often the lyrics don't fit the story (unless, like Ronald Reagan, you think Born In The USA is a declaration of love) and the vocals also leave a bit too much. wishes that many songs do not come out well (enough). An exception is the beautifully edited 'I Have A Dream' in which we literally see what has become of Donna's dream to start a hotel. In this sequel, there is virtually no story at all and surprises are very hard to find. Did we really want to know how Donna got into bed with three men in a short period of time? Lily James is particularly good as the young version of Meryl Streep, even though her role is quite one-dimensional. It takes way too long for the three "fathers" [Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård and Colin Firth] to get together (the chemistry between the three actors is a plus) and it says a lot that Cher - who is a sublime, diva-worthy makes an entrance - the film steals in a tiny part in the admittedly satisfying finale. Her rendition of 'Fernando' is the musical highlight of this film, Meryl Streep's cameo the dramatic highlight. And yes, you can call me a vinegar pisser, but why does the melancholic 'Super Trooper' make everyone so happy?

infectious. The joy radiates from Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and the actors clearly had the most fun filming in sun-drenched Greece. Lily James is the big star of the film as the young Donna, but the chemistry between Seyfried, Brosnan, Walters and Baranski is again excellent. And when Skarsgard and Firth make their appearance, the party is complete.
Not all songs are equally strong, and the singing talents of the actors are also somewhat variable. But that is also the charm of the film. Here We Go Again is also a bit more serious than the first Mamma Mia movie, and the movie can get it right. And Lily James makes everything better anyway, with Meryl Streep having a nice cameo at the end.

Slightly better even than the first part. The miscasting of Pierce Brosnan is somewhat absorbed here with hardly any singing moments for the actor. And Lily James is again strongly cast. She can sing a lot, fits like a glove in this film and without a doubt steals the show. Cher is then redundant again. In addition, she brought her own producer for her singing in this film. Of course, that doesn't help the integration in the film either.
It's okay in this film with a mix of love/drama and nostalgia, which in turn fits in with ABBA's repertoire. Fans of part 1 will definitely enjoy this.
