"The happiest sound in all the world!"

The widower Captain Von Trapp runs his household near Salzburg as he did the ship he once led. However, this changes when the new nanny Maria, who has failed as a nun, arrives. She dances through the hills inspiring everyone to sing and to see beauty in the smallest things. When the captain throws a party to introduce his new fiancé, Maria knows for sure: a life as a nun is not for her. She marries the captain, but when the German overlords want the captain back in military service, happiness is jeopardized.

Successful musical.

Perhaps one of the best. From the man behind the less successful West Side Story puts down a very successful video here. Nice to see Christopher Plummer so young. But yeah.

As for the movie itself, Julie Andrews is beyond fun. Plummer's kids are extremely fun to follow and the 174 minutes are actually pretty quick. Although it is a bit on the long side for a musical. The first part is quite harmless, but the second part is also strong.

He does it for the second part. The Second World War is always a sensitive subject, but that to consider that that film was only 20 years later and not more than 70 years as it is now. Otherwise a good movie, I just had a good time with this innocent cinema.

I'm watching it now...for the very first time. Always fun to google at the same time. Like that daughter Liesl, played by Charmian Carr, had a huge crush on Christopher Plummer (her dad in the movie of course). She died at the age of 73 as a result of dementia. Lyricist Oscar Hammerstein died before the film's release. His last contribution was Edelweiss, which is again Julie Andrews' favorite song. Plummer couldn't sing, so you can hear Bill Lee's voice in his singing, a well-known singing booth. At the time, the cast was concerned that the film could be perceived as too sweet. Let's face it, the Swinging Sixties had been underway for a while. Shittes... the film is almost 3 hours long.
