Absolutely nothing this.

Cheap manga/anime film adaptation. Nothing else seen or read, but the "quick cashing" atmosphere drips from it.

That shinugami is really the low point of the movie. Cheap CGi figure that is completely out of place. Visually they have tried, that much is clear. But outside the very beginning (with the city by night view) nothing really comes out.

The story is really a bunch of nonsense. They have tried to give it some depth, some tension, etc., but that also fails.

Better actors would have helped. Some visual skills would have been nice, and a serious soundtrack was also welcome.

Terrible manga movie. 1*

Nice!

I haven't seen the anime yet, but this one was great. Obviously also put together for a small budget, especially if you like that Ryuk who is clearly just a glued together computer presentation that you can make at home. All in all, he steals the show. We meet Light, a cynical student with an anarchic tinge. As you often hear the story, he is very concerned about all the misery and injustice in the world. Yes, we all do and if only we could change that on our own. The opportunity is up for grabs when he sees the Death Note on the street. A simple notebook that kills people if you write the appropriate name in it. How simple is it? Too simple, because it's even starting to get addictive and the rooster behavior with ghost Ryuk plays a part in that too... and who will shed a tear over Japan's most notorious criminals?

Death Note, despite often remaining on the back burner, often knows how to captivate and not get bored. The characters here mainly bring life to the brewery and Lights doppelganger L is also very cool. This again has such a typical supernatural ending.... and so I'll have to quickly follow up on part 2.

Great Japanese work again.

4.0*
