Evil looks even better now... and there's no lying about that! This movie was the first movie I saw with Mila Kunis years ago and I fell in love right away. Of course she is a nicer appearance than Bale, the straight eye also wants something. Now I was curious if I had rated the film so highly for that reason alone. Conclusion: partly.

Even after a review, I don't think the film is bad at all. The biggest problem is that it has a huge name attached to it, which creates enormous expectations and of course they are not fulfilled. The film was not initially intended as a sequel and was to be released as a standalone. I'll leave it up to you whether there could be a sequel to the superior first part, but despite that it still falls short on every front to compete.

The second big problem is Bale's impressive performance that you're missing here. It's not Mila Kunis' fault, though I can't bring myself to tear her down. Still, I think that besides an irritating Jackie from That 70's Show she can also put down a convincing killer. She has certain facial expressions that seem quite menacing. But a good killer is not a good psycho. The lead-up to the murders, unlike Bateman's, is very weak. Bateman took his time and telling a nice anecdote before igniting brought just that little bit extra that made him a real psycho. Kunis is just a raunchy killer in a raunchy slasher here.

In addition, the film is completely illogical. Can kill on campus undisturbed without anyone noticing? The sharp humor is missing, although there are a few nice tongue-in-cheek jokes. The ending is far-fetched with the crash, although the ending scene proves that the film should not be taken so seriously. Not a bad movie, but a bad sequel.

This is not part two.

Perhaps that's why this film is so underrated, because the weird way in which the two films are linked is simply inexplicable. And where the original is dead serious with a kind of sarcastic wink, this is more of a completely unserious high school movie. Really not the same at all.

But still... this is quite a very funny movie here and there. Especially if you pay attention to the occasionally too funny lyrics, there are still a lot of wonderful finds in between. And a nice early role by Mila Kunis, nothing wrong with that either.

Oh dear.

Maybe I let myself be led a bit too much by the fact that this is a sequel. Normally I always try to be flexible with tone settings in the context of reboots and sequels, but the first part of this series is so much a duck of its own that it just doesn't make sense to add another film to it. This movie proves that well.

Christian Bale was a great character at the time. Had wonderful dialogues and managed to carry the film with its charms without difficulty. With this sequel, they reverse the proportions. First film was directed by a woman, this one by a man. The first film had a man in the lead role, and this second part a woman. Great choice of course, but the movie itself is shit.

That is of course unrelated to the sex ratios before I am attacked about that. This film mainly lacks charm and uniqueness. Kunis manages to carry the film nowhere and the other characters disappoint badly. Anyway, I don't see the connections with the previous film. Some references and that's it. The environment has been completely relocated. So this time a high school setting, but it just doesn't want to work because of the boring content.

The murders are also quite disappointing. The film mainly has to rely on some sparse jokes in between and a number of reasonable sequences. Other than that, there's really not much in it that could keep me interested. Maybe it could have worked better as a standalone movie, but then no one would have watched. And understandable, because what exactly does this film have that other films don't? Just think about that. Bad grade for a bad movie.
