As a comedy quite successful because that's how I experienced the film. Just because of that crazy family. Visually, I didn't think it was all that special. In any case, it doesn't come close to his film The Lords of Salem (2012), for me still Rob Zombie's best film. As for the horror in this movie, I didn't find anything shocking about that. But then again, if you see a lot of these kinds of movies, you just get numb from all those massacres.

3.5*

“I am the devil, and I am here to do the devil's work.”

Absurd, explicit and sometimes uncomfortable, but also very entertaining. From the first second, director Rob Zombie sets the tone with a ridiculous shooting that introduces all the characters. It's important that you don't take it all too seriously, and the greatest strength of the film is that the makers and actors know exactly the right tone.

Moseley in particular is clearly having the time of his life, and Haig, Sheri Moon Zombie and Forsythe (who's so serious it's comedic again) are also doing well. The violence is uncompromising and Zombie is also not fussy about the multiple use of explicit violence and naked women. The ending is the icing on the cake.

After House of 1000 corpses it's the sequel's turn, the film I was initially interested in. But I dare to doubt whether this film makes a much better impression, while this film has the reputation of being more accessible and suitable for a wider audience. Once again perhaps the conclusion that this is just not my genre.

The 'big' shooting in the beginning is already disappointing in terms of recordings and editing. I can't really call it 'great' even though it complies with the gritty exploitation-like style that is being pursued. A single shot like a shotgun shot, pretty with the muzzle flame, is really worth it and the men entering the house surrounded by tear gas look classy too. And the latter stands out to me in any case compared to the first film. Visually it all seems a bit slicker.

The grim and unpredictable atmosphere is still there and this time too, everyone who crosses paths with the Otis and Baby has to suffer in a sadistic way. This time they really have an enemy of great caliber after them who spares effort even methods to enforce his revenge and justice. And it must be said, William Forsyth does his part with gusto, just like Sheri Moon Zombie, she's wacky but tantalizingly sexual to the point of playful.

Zombie likes to shock and the film is once again astonishing and unpredictable. Predictable is the too long revenge action and finale with of course a tail as a result. It's a pity that the Firefly's don't get their punishment, on the other hand it turns out that a vengeful person can also be extremely sadistic. Also nice to mention is the cameo of WWE wrestler Diamond Dallas Page and the many good music. But all in all I don't really get excited about this film and I can conclude that the genre is not for me. Nice for once, and that's it.
