Saturday the 14th plot
"Just when you thought it was safe to look at the calendar again."
This parody not only targets Friday the 13th, but also a whole host of other horror films. The youngest member of a family discovers a mysterious book in the basement of their new home, and accidentally casts a curse on Saturday the 14th. In addition, a number of monsters escape from the book and the family members constantly have to run for their lives.

Viva VHS!
Because the cover is really beautiful and besides the delicious smell that the magnetic tape still gives off after all these years, this is such a product that most likely can only be viewed in this dated way. And rightly so. Because the humor is hard to find in this excruciatingly slow and terribly unpleasant, comically intended horror film that is provided with a script that can't even be funny on paper.

But It gets worse on Saturday the 14th
The kind of movie that you're hoping will end quickly after ten minutes. Parody of horror movie classics. With terrible humor and not to be seen on all levels. Perhaps the most fun is to guess the many movies that are referred to is (therefore 1*), although this will not be a particularly big challenge for the film lover. A shark in a bathtub among other things ... and that owl "joke" is good for one time, but after four times this is really lame .

Saturday the 14th is a fun horror parody. The humor is fairly innocent and stupid but despite that I laughed quite a bit every now and then. I found the persistent designation of bats as owls very funny. That doesn't sound funny but it is. Furthermore, the film has trashy monsters and makes funny references to films like Jaws, Creature from the Black Lagoon and Dracula.
The running time is short and just right. The film ends at the moment when you realize that you have been bombarded with enough nonsense. Until then, it is nice to stay in the new house of the Hyatt family, which is being attacked by all kinds of monsters. The monsters do not look very threatening. Perhaps a result of a small budget or perhaps intentionally. In any case, the cheap-looking monsters fit in well with the triviality of the whole.
The acting is not very good, but I suspect that is intentional. It is also nice to mention that Paula Prentiss, who plays the lady of the house, was walking around with a broken arm at the time of filming. She was always filmed in such a way that her cast would not be visible. It is also nice to mention that the film title is reason to suspect that the film Friday the 13th (1980) is one of the films that is being parodied. Strangely enough, that is not the case. I suspect that is intentional.
