Beautiful film. I really enjoyed the colors of this technicolor, which do not detract from the dark story, on the contrary give it an almost surreal - and appropriate - quality.

Gene Tierney is outstanding as an extremely narcissistic and psychopathic soul in an attractive package. Opponents Cornell Wilde and Jeanne Crain also do fine in my opinion, although they have less striking roles, which is hard to do otherwise. Also a good word for Vincent Price, whom I liked to see at work in court to get his point.

Direction and cinematography by John M. Stahl and cinematographer Leon Shamroy (record holder for Oscar nominations) are certainly solid.
For me, the most shocking scene was the one where Gene voluntarily throws himself down the stairs. Besides a slight horror, I felt sorry for this figure and the insight that she is seriously mentally ill and in need of psychiatric help. But of course it doesn't work that way in film noir. There one continues until the bitter or – in this case – bittersweet end. Beautiful shot to close the movie, and gave me shivers.

Apparently Leave Her To Heaven is a favorite of Martin Scorsese, as already mentioned on the forum, although I can imagine that a David Lynch would also like this.
One to review.

Great drama thriller in which Tierney steals the show as a psychopathic woman who goes to great lengths to keep her husband exclusively for herself , the main plot is slowly built up .

The rest of the cast does a fair to good job, Cornel Wilde plays a bit silly in the beginning, but as the film progresses he blossoms more.

One of the rare films where we see a female evil character who is also portrayed realistically and without any tendency to justify her behavior .

Furthermore, the story is just strong and the ending is beautiful.

Striking movie. The first film noir in color (at least not far off), although it is more of a psychological thriller. The star of service is Gene Tierney, a somewhat underrated Hollywood actress. In any case, she received an Oscar nomination for her role in this film and easily plays Cornel Wilde home. Wilde only gets going well later.

The film provides the necessary tension and Ellen's character becomes more vicious with the scene. The final scene with Vincent Price increases the pressure even further until the bomb explodes. Fascinating to follow!
