Bacall and Bogart.

At the time one of the most romantic couples in Hollywood, and that is clearly reflected in the film. Going back in time and counting the manners and tropes that are customary in film, the chemistry radiates from the screen over the years.

The first half of the film was filmed from the main character's point of view in a way that was perhaps completely original for the time - we don't get to see him, we only see what he sees. Very cleverly done, it gives a very special atmosphere to the film and immediately sets the tension, you are immediately in the story as if you are on the run yourself.

Unfortunately, I find the second part of the film a bit less strong, the mystery is a bit off and the predictability of the further story increases too quickly. Still, it remains a fine film, especially because of the beautiful cinematography and the beautiful playing of Bogart and Bacall.

A story that is actually riddled with improbabilities, coincidences and implausibility is saved by good acting from both leads, great supporting roles that all lean towards the bizarre without ever really being over-the-top beautiful camera work, an atmospheric setting, and culminating in an unexpectedly erotic scene between Bogart and Agnes Moorehead, who was not the most sensual actress in Hollywood, but here through meaningful looks and suggestive gestures ( the way she first Bogart kneels and then suddenly caresses his watch!) adds a remarkable sultryness to the already charged moment. A rather unique viewing experience, beautifully presented on Living Color's Classic Cinema Collection DVD in a more than excellent transfer and a short (11 minutes) but informative and not uncritical documentary.

Wonderful film with Hollywood couple Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart, married for several years and already seen together on the big screen. That also provides the necessary chemistry here. Dark Passage can count on an interesting story and especially the beginning is quite well filmed. That makes for a pretty good film noir, even if the second part of the film is a bit less. It's not Bacall's or Bogart's best film, which is mainly because they've just made much better classics. Dark Passage cannot count on the well-known strong dialogues, but rather has to rely on the story and the beginning of the film. But it is still recommended.
