A total surprise. A very nice family film in which, in the midst of the raw reality of everyday life with the necessary drama, you are regularly sucked into the rich fantasy world of the children:

Just close your eyes, but keep your mind wide open.

Very nicely done and superbly acted by Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb and little Bailee Madison (as the little sister). A compelling, occasionally moving film that makes you long for your own childhood.

A fine family / youth film in which, as so often, friendship is central. Jesse is far from the most popular boy in the class, although he excels at sports. In addition, he is often on his own. This changes when a new classmate who is also his girl next door arrives.

They hang out together and often go to the forest behind the river where a whole new fantasy world opens up and where they can leave the worries of general (school) life behind. The chemistry between the two was good and the involvement of the characters and the story was palpable. Not that there is so much spectacular happening, but it's made fun.

Beautiful fantasy scenes make you dream away from reality. Of course the focus is on the youth and for that target audience this film is not bad at all.

Although it is a real youth film, I had a lot of fun with this. I am a fan of the fact that children can bring their fantasy world to life, if you believe it hard enough, just think of a movie like 'Neverending Story'. I thought the duo Jesse and Leslie were perfect in their roles, Leslie stood out even more.

These are the kind of films where I mostly experience real feel good, but also moments of less fun feeling. This movie had me completely on board as well. Highly recommended for young and old I'm going for a nice 8/10.
