Agree with Erick. Difficult to follow due to the mediocre sound of the 1930s and the Irish dialects. Really for the I also bought it on DVD. The film is by far the least of the almost 50 Hitchcock's I saw and the only one that is barely worth seeing. I liked the more comical first hour less than the dramatic last half hour. The actress who plays Juno somewhat saves the film.

Hitchcock greatly admired this play by Sean O'Casey about a poor Irish family that unexpectedly inherits a fortune in the early 1920s, but cannot escape the tensions that have arisen since the Irish uprising. Excellently played by the experienced cast, but the combination of the location (the story takes place entirely in one apartment) and the limitations of the sound techniques explain the static cinematic style.

One from the transition silent movies - talkies. After Blackmail, Hitchock's film studio encountered financial difficulties, which led to many layoffs. Hitchcock was allowed to stay but had to deliver a commercial success. The choice fell on the theater play of the same name, which had been successful for several years and was therefore a kind of certitude. The Irish approach was intended to ensure that Irish migrants in the USA and Australia would also boost viewing figures and further support the market.

All this aside, it was a difficult film for me to watch. It feels more like theater than a film. The humor contained in it does not survive so many years later. The Irish accent contributes to a somewhat provincial character and does not help to dispel the dullness. Hitchcock or not, there wasn't much to like about this intrinsically.
