Confession (1953) is a beautifully shot Hitchcock about a priest who hears a confession about a murder and gets further and further into the murder case.

Great stylistic black and white images pass by, such as from the church. Montgomery Clift convincingly plays a rather handsome priest who has to hold back all kinds of feelings throughout the film for various reasons, although they are all connected to his profession.

The story is not difficult, but it gets more interesting and exciting towards the end. The ending of the film is also very nice with an interesting suspenseful court scene followed by Christ Symbolism (at least that's what I saw in it when he was openly charged with the murder at the end of the trial (but acquitted for lack of evidence). ) and the large crowd greeted him hostilely. In doing so, he remained icy calm and refused to break his confession secret. The perpetrator projects his fears and hopelessness into the priest. Very nice ending, although the ending was a bit abrupt.

Film that made an impression and still does.
Superb intrigue in a very good Hitchcock with this time not the nail-biting ending as the master could serve, but visually very clever.
Montgommery Clift is the perfect actor to choose for the role of a priest with a romantic past and faithful to the confessional.
Totally underrated in terms of scores. Perhaps expectations were different with Hitchcock directing and a different audience came over the cinema floor.
