Film contains so many beautiful scenes where you are really sucked into the traumatic existence of an otherwise strong-willed character that the sudden turn in the end surprised me.

Simplicity, honesty and discretion adorn this film, which also achieves a high cinematic level.

The rendition of Victor Polster is without a doubt sublime. He knows perfectly how to portray the psychological pain that his character experiences.

Because it may not bring the Americans the sensation they might have expected, the film was left out in the cold, but the Cannes awards are all the more deserving.

With this beautiful debut film, director Lukas Dhont does have strong expectations for the future...

Emotional film with a formidable interpretation by Viktor Polster in the center. I expect that will stay with me the most from this film. Although ballet is closely intertwined with the main theme, I do regret that much of the running time is devoted to ballet lessons. A little more attention to the reactions of the environment (family, classmates, etc.) to the sex change would have been welcome in my opinion.

Honest, sober and sensitive coming-of-age drama film about an introverted transgender girl who wants to become a ballerina. The film is a good achievement by our southern neighbors! Cinematography mainly indoors and at the ballet school with many dance scenes, where the many mirrors stand out. Music is mainly dance related. The young Flemish director Lucas Dhont has done an excellent job with his debut film. The acting performance of the young 15/16 year old Victor Polster is without a doubt sublime! You really feel like you're looking at a teenage girl. It will be difficult to dance on pointe as a male ballet dancer anyway! And unfortunately the wounds to the toes are indeed the reality for many (excellent) ballerinas..... The confusing feelings and difficulties of growing up as a transgender girl are flawlessly conveyed, not only through spoken text, but especially through facial expressions, movements and emotions. You also see the physical discomfort that comes with this. How painful for Lara that the other ballerinas wanted to see her naked, because with gender dysphoria that part of your body doesn't feel like yours....... The rhythm of the sequence: 'brother to school, on the subway, ballet training , in the car with daddy, eating at home', repeats itself, but in a downward spiral. The ending is gruesome, but unsurprising and fitting with the building despair you feel throughout the film. The film has a higher message, how you interpret it is up to each individual. The film ends with looking at her reflection in the window, accompanied by beautiful classical music.....
