"A wrong girl for the right side of the tracks."
The dancer Lane Bellamy is stranded in Boldon City because the circus where she worked has left the city to avoid creditors. Lane befriends Deputy Fielding Carlisle, who was ordered to close the circus. After learning that the attractive Lane is looking for work and wants to settle in Boldon City, Fielding invites her to dinner, helps her land a waitressing job and provides lodging. However, Fielding is being observed by his mentor, Sheriff Titus Semple. Titus, who has political plans for Fielding, feels there is no room for a woman like Lane and encourages him to marry the wealthy Annabelle Weldon of the wealthy Flamingo Road neighborhood.
