Deal plot
Tommy Vinson is an ex-gambler who swore 30 years ago never to gamble again after being absent due to a family emergency. Tommy, now in the luggage business, sees a boy's poker game on television, reminding him of his younger self. This Alex Stillman wants nothing more than to become a pro poker player, but his parents would rather see him continue his education. Tommy gets in touch with Alex and makes a deal with him. If Alex plays exactly as Tommy says, he will lead him into the bigger tournaments. This initially goes well and Alex wins one match after another. When Alex and Tommy get into a fight, the collaboration seems to be over. Despite Tommy's wife's objections, he's gotten a taste of it again and decides to take to the tournaments with his poker game. Both Tommy and Alex are doing so well that they both make it to the end of the poker season. Anyway, Tommy will have Alex as his opponent to go through to the final.

Not special, but entertaining.
Deal is a poker movie that rivals Lucky you and is about as good. Both films lack something that makes them really good. Deal is very predictable as many have pointed out.
Still, it was entertaining. A light snack. Harrison isn't that bad as a poker rookie, Burt Reynolds wasn't bad either, but what did he do to his face? As tight as what! Shannon Elizabeth shouldn't even be on the cover here, she's such a small part. Story around her was also superfluous. They just wanted to figure out a way to break up Tommy and Alex and they simply did it this way, kind of a shame.
Nice to see some big names like Phil Laak, Mike Sexton and Jennifer Tilly(actress and poker player). Very unfortunate about the ending and a little more focus on the poker game would have been nice. Often you see the hands of the players, but not the deck, then you don't know anything.
Finally when Tommy called Alex in to read people what kind of cards they had. How could Tommy know about that one guy. He looks at it for a moment and knows what he has, impossible.
Nevertheless, I did enjoy it and I think many a poker fan will do the same with Deal. Only "All In" is a crappy poker movie.

Poker movies have been popping up like mushrooms lately. Not surprising that the originality then drops. But if you're going to copy endings from other films, your scriptwriter is very sad.
Funny how many here think the same thing I do about Reynolds. Decent acting, but what happened to that man? So bad that it looked like all that plastic surgery and then his makeup. More of a parody of Reynolds than Reynolds himself.
Quite a nice snack, but originality and a good film technical part is hard to find.
