Dear Frankie plot

For as long as nine-year-old Frankie can remember, he's been out and about with his mom. They recently moved to a Scottish coastal town. Wanting to protect her deaf son from the truth, Lizzie tells him that his father is sailing at sea on HMS Acra. Every few weeks, Lizzie Frankie writes fake letters from his father, telling him about made-up adventures in exotic lands. Frankie keeps a close eye on the ship and at one point discovers that the ship is on its way home. As the HMS Acra approaches the town, Lizzie must decide whether to tell Frankie the truth or find the perfect stranger to play Frankie's father for one day.

Nice drama.

Somewhat predictable, or actually just a bit too explanatory at times? You often feel fairly quickly what is going on without really focusing on it. That's nice, but a little later it often literally has to be applied again. Something about it every time.

Other than that, it's only a minor point, because the drama certainly works and the film doesn't feel fake or sentimental anywhere. It's a small, sweet and cute movie.

It's a shame that it isn't real anymore. Thought it was a cinematic dragon, very dull and passionately designed. Small revival with the song by Arvo Part (I believe also occurs in Gerry), otherwise a rather dead film both musically and visually.

A shame, because there certainly could have been a lot more in it. Now the film mainly works as a beautiful drama, especially the last five minutes, but I would have liked a little more,

3.0*

Nice film about a nine-year-old boy who has never seen his father and who writes letters to him. A nice story that takes a while to get going. Despite the subject, the film manages to avoid sentiment well, but at the same time there could have been more in it. Some things could have been worked out better.

Nice feel good movie. Nice gift of course. Well acted, not too sweet, with a nice twist at the end... which makes you wonder what the future has in store when the outcome is 'so close'. Mortimer is good, Butler is exchangeable (as is often the case).
