Dreamgirls plot
"All you have to do is dream."
Effie White, Deena Jones, and Lorrell Robinson, three friends from Chicago, form the singing trio The Dreamettes. Together with their 'songwriter' CC White (Effie's brother), they travel to New York to participate in a talent show at the Apollo Theater. Despite losing this, ambitious manager Curtis Taylor, Jr. interested in them. Curtis makes The Dreamettes a famous trio in the 'pop music scene'. Lead singer Effie is replaced by the more attractive Deena and eventually expelled from the trio. The Dreamettes then become The Dreams, with a lighter sound and a chic look and they become world famous. However, the money and fame don't bring them all happiness.

A film full of show, song and dance and then in the field of soul, gospel, R&B and blues in the Motown atmosphere. Great music and a light, happy atmosphere. Especially thanks to Eddie Murphy of course
So humorous is also good.
The story concerns personal ambitions and mutual human relations and is fascinating to follow.
I think this is a very nice musical, based on an already existing Broadway musical.
If you look on YouTube you will see that the songs are sung in all kinds of shows and talent shows. And they are certainly worth it. Beautiful music!

Nice music, I like one song better than the other, but the story around it didn't really interest me and it barely held my attention. I think the acting is okay and especially because of the music and the beautiful shows, I give it a sufficient. 3*

It's really special to see how names like Bill Condon make so many different kinds of movies. Maybe he does position himself in as many genres as possible until one hits the audience. A strategy that I can support, but I have yet to discover films at Condon that do really well.
Showgirls is a film that wants to quickly put itself on the radar with visual tricks. Lots of colors, glitters and songs filling the screen. That is also to be expected if you have Beyonce in the lead role, then you can of course expect a kind of musical. There are also special side characters such as Foxx's, who really don't look like it. But it's part of the times, so it's easy for him to forgive.
This film falls short in connecting with the audience. The film is long and a lot happens, but rarely does it actually catch on. Plus, they're pretty run-down scenarios presented here without the presentation being really great. Colorful and uplifting, but never a style that can distinguish itself from other films.
Had it maintained a somewhat more consistent flow in combination with a somewhat shorter playing time, Dreamgirls would of course have been easier to sit out. For now it is a standard product that is nice to look at, but seems too chewed up to impress the public any longer. Unless you're a big fan of Beyonce of course, then it all goes a bit easier.
