Dog Pound plot

"Fighting Back Is The Only Way Out"

Three young lawbreakers Butch, Davis and Angel arrive at Maplewood Juvenile Detention Center, under the watchful eye of Goodyear, a stern but compassionate guard. Transferred from another assault institution, Butch bids his time until he is sent to a normal prison. He and Davis soon fall victim to Banks, the most feared boy in the institute. Both do not want to say anything about the event, and therefore end up in solitary confinement. Once back, Butch defeats Banks and claims the position of "Top Dog".

a realistic film in which you really start to empathize.

but it all happens a bit fast and at times you can't follow properly.

the end is hard but I thought something else was coming because it stops so suddenly and you don't know how it ('really') ended with him.

Conventional prison film in which Chapiron doesn't shy away from using a cliché or two. It is remarkable that this somewhat stale film is from the director of Sheitan. That chapiron apparently lost his wild hair quickly. Another idiosyncratic director down the drain shall we say.

Anyway, Dog Pound is not a completely bad film. It doesn't feel like it's anywhere off the beaten track, but the pace is good, Adam Butcher puts in a strong performance, and the turbulent finale could have been there. But once again, this prison film also appears to be unable to wrestle from clichés and conventions. So my quest for original prison films is not over yet. 2.5*.

As far as I'm concerned, the synopsis described does not cover the charge.

Anyway, I can just go along with the average rating.

Sometimes realistic, often not, and clichés are not shunned.

But by some strongly acted with a fitting ending. *3.5
