The film felt more dated than it was (because of the overly dramatic film score, the worn-out flashback concept and the lyrics before and after). A thirteen out of a dozen thriller that never really got exciting or intriguing.

Unknown film and an equally unknown background, something that in itself is not a problem. However, the mediocre numbers did not bode well. Anyway, let's try... research has already revealed that Robert Durst, the character that really matters, has always been in denial and passed away in January of this year.

This drama, because I can't call this a thriller or romance, doesn't even get off to a bad start. We see Gosling in a role as more often, a bit strange, troubled and above all closed about what is going on. He gets into a relationship with the young Kate, but soon small things play out that over the years grow into bigger problems with the disappearance as a result.

Nice is certainly the background of David with a decent millstone around his neck. The same goes for the family he comes from and his power and money, but also the dominant father, well played by Langella. She will never belong is one of the comments to David and oh how father hates helping Kate and David financially. Meanwhile, he seems to brag enough that they are dependent on him and that he has a finger in the pie. Remarkable is the ease with which David gives up the shop, even weirder is the fact that Kate hardly seems to care.

And so the blood crawls where it can't go. Is David afraid of what once was or what he will become? Sigh for approval, severe psychological complaints, mother complex, separation anxiety...in the end there seems to be a lot going on in this drama with a touch of mystery and it doesn't really become clear. All Good Things doesn't really fascinate either, the film can't be called bad, but neither is it very good. And that while such a story might have deserved something better. Nevertheless, enough for the effort.
