Tried this one and thought it was a good movie. Despite the simple story, the film manages to captivate, partly due to the excellent running time.

The cast also did a great job and came across convincingly.

Not a miss movie, worth watching.

The title comes from a song by the Scottish poet Robert Burns. It is about an impossible love and the confrontation between two cultures in the same country. As usual with Ken Loach, this is done in a very realistic style. The actors only know part of the script beforehand. Especially Eva Birthistle plays a beautiful role. It must contend with conservative views in both milieus. There's also a comic scene that reminds me a bit of Laurel and Hardy, with that piano going up the stairs. You easily sympathize with the two main characters, who are confronted with a dilemma: to rebel or to conform to the expectations of your environment?

Ae Fond Kiss moved me enormously. The love between a migrant son (a modern Muslim) and a young music teacher was very touching to watch. It felt absolutely right. The cultural divide is huge and the obstacles are many. Immigrants often form a kind of society within a society, but unfortunately it doesn't work that way. You then become an integral part of the "whole" society. Loach and Laverty show their affection for the couple and the hopeful message they carry, wonderfully played by the actors, and in their social commentary express much affection and belief for the added value that a multicultural society [i]could have[[] /i] allowed everyone to see beyond just the differences. Impossible love I read in some comments? No, and that is perhaps the best thing about this film.
