Arturo Bandini is an Italian migrant son who gives up everything and leaves for Los Angeles to fulfill his ultimate writing dream. He wants to feel like a 'real American', but his plan is thwarted when he meets Camilla Lopez, a Mexican beauty who hopes to rise above her means by marrying a wealthy American. A love-hate relationship develops that is doomed to fail.
