Antichrist plot

"When nature turns evil, true terror awaits."

While a couple is making love, their child falls out of the window and dies. The woman falls into a deep depression. Her husband, himself a therapist, rejects the medical treatment she is receiving and wants to cure her with rational talking sessions. The woman has a deep but indefinable fear that seems to be related to the forest where she previously worked on a historical study of religiously based violence against women. To confront her with that fear, the couple travels to the forest that bears the Biblical name Eden.

Pretty impressive.

So I finally got to see this film in a quiet and silent room, which at the same time also became my first real Von Trier experience. And he actually left, surprisingly enough, a pretty good experience with Antichrist.

I didn't find it shocking or terribly disturbing anywhere, there are some disgusting moments in it and the film is sometimes quite daring where you sometimes seriously question the spirit of Von Trier. But he also wrote the story under depression.

I'm probably the only one, but I don't think she has that Gainsbourg completely lined up with these kinds of roles, but she does perform it with conviction. Dafoe was also quite strong. The film is visually stunning, very intriguing and compelling. Especially quiet forest shots sometimes burst with atmosphere. Just like that opening.

Also an eerie soundtrack, which matches perfectly with the atmosphere that is sometimes strongly portrayed. Never boring in my opinion, maybe a bit difficult to follow at most. A strange, but quite impressive experience. The words "Chaos Reigns" stuck in my head for a while after the movie.

One of the best movies I've ever seen, bursting with symbolism, metaphors (the statuettes, the animals, the women at the end) and references to Christianity as well as Satanism. For me this film is art with a capital A, at many moments you could take a photo, like a painting. Film is only carried by the 2 protagonists. Beautiful, well-chosen music, beautiful black and white slow motion beginning and end. Lars von Trier wrote the film when he was in a deep depression, but don't artists, writers and composers come to great heights when they are in crisis, psychosis or depression? Advice: read the extensive explanation on the Internet beforehand, then you will understand the symbolism of the film better......

104 minutes that feel like 300. How can a movie be so fucked up boring without structure. No plot, no introspection (leaf with pyramid boohoo), illogical things (skunk can suddenly speak English). If the director's goal was to make a movie that is so fucked up boring that the viewer feels mentally paralyzed that female circumcision isn't even shocking but irritating, then it's a goal really accomplished.
