The Green Pastures plot
On a beautiful Sunday in the Louisiana Delta, the black pastor, Mr. Deshee, Bible stories to his Sunday class. To help the children visualize God and heaven, he describes this in Southern terms. The 'Lawd' (The Lord) looks exactly like their preacher, and except for their wings, the angels look exactly like the members of his congregation. But the 'Lawd' created too much firmament in one day, so that's why He created the sun and the earth to let the excess flow away. After realizing what good farmland He has made, the 'Lawd' created Adam and Eve to live on the land. However, the 'Lawd' is disappointed by the descendants of Adam and Eve. After punishing Cain for the murder of Abel, the 'Lawd' leaves the earth alone for a while, but the next time He returns, He will find another evil world again...
