Mediocre film that never seems to ignite or gets a clear direction, and after the second or third time I have to admit that this isn't going to be uhm, although at first it seemed to me an extremely fascinating film from the maker of the beautiful Atonement .

Where the film itself has a very interesting subject and the truth is reasonably adhered to around the schizophrenic Nathaniel, it doesn't grab me at all and I feel the story from a distance. This is partly due to Lopez, a character that I find shocking, otherworldly and above all egocentric from the start. I constantly have the feeling that good intentions mainly serve a good column. And Lopez doesn't listen to the man from the shelter either.

Good things are the role of Foxx who, after Ray, once again plays a troubled musician. The images of the youth, and the slowly built up breakdown are quite nice. And despite the view on the hard life in the slums and shelters, the film comes across as too tame, slow and saccharinely sentimental.

No, I once bought this film with high expectations shortly after the release, but this is the final verdict. Poor movie unfortunately...

Much better than expected. A beautiful and captivating (true) story. It touched me and dragged me along more and more. I wasn't in it right away and I can't say I got into it completely, but I think it's a good movie. A 7. 3.5*

A journalist happens to meet a homeless person who plays the violin very beautifully. He becomes fascinated by the man and dives into his past. That is the beginning of a friendship with trial and error. Because besides the fact that the man is an enormous musical talent, he also has a huge psychiatric problem and great difficulty with the world around him. It's a nice story and the acting is good, but unfortunately as a film it ripples a bit too much and it never really gets off the ground. It may be inherent in the man's psychiatric problems. He just is and he probably never will. So you should not have too high expectations. And you do when watching a movie. In that sense, it's actually a really good movie.
