Unbelievable what a raw drama! That takes a while. What a great movie and what an acting performance. 5☆ from me.

In 2007, the previously known actor Paddy Considine made his first short film. The premise of the melancholy effective Dog Altogether (to be seen on YouTube) would become the starting point of Tyrannosaur (2011). In an interview on the occasion of Dog Altogether, Considine stated that he was mainly inspired by Ken Loach, master of decaying film lives. With one important difference: Tyrannosaur has an apolitical appearance, in which only the necessary social criticism shines through implicitly. Not the British bureaucracy, but man himself seems to be the tragic culprit. Anti-hero Joseph (Peter Mullan) has condemned himself to his own misery, the gray, realistically filmed north of England does the rest. This is the kind of living environment in which you no longer clean up debris. They fit perfectly into the decor.

Actor Paddy Considine won a BAFTA in 2008 for his directorial debut, the short film Dog Altogether and a few years later decided to use that film as the basis for his first feature film. Mullan and Colman returned for this confrontational yet superbly acted of two apparent opposites helping each other escape their demons. For Joseph [Peter Mullan], it's the death of his wife that makes him a vessel of aggression that causes him to have frequent outbursts of violence. After one of those aggressive outings, he hides in the charity shop of Anita [Olivia Colman], a God-fearing, kind woman trapped in a marriage to James [Eddie Marsan]. Definitely not recommended for dog lovers, but this penetrating, intense psychological drama is a fantastic showcase for three masterful actors.
