Very cool. Stylish and very entertaining. Kill Bill (I'll make the comparison) is even more similar than I thought. 4 big stars. Little to complain about.

I quite liked it. Japanese exploitation that almost immediately makes you think of the Tarantino story style. It is impossible that he has never seen this film. The revenge story is simplistic but stylishly presented. The bloody scenes are exaggerated but that is typical of exploitation. It all looks good and does not disappoint anywhere. I thought the last chapter in the ballroom was brilliant...

At the same time as Pam Grier, an action heroine also emerged on the other side of the Pacific. For Lady Snowblood, revenge is a sacred mission. The introduction and a few flashbacks make the origins of her oath clear. A wise teacher prepares her for her task. At the end of the nineteenth century, revolvers already existed, but she prefers traditional weapons such as the katana (sword) and the kaiken (dagger).

White and red are used a lot. They are the colors of snow and blood, of innocence and revenge, and of the Japanese flag. A death knell announces impending doom. The spraying blood is exaggerated, but that increases the cult value. An interesting twist is that the daughter of one of the victims wants revenge in turn, which leads to a spiral of violence.

Some images from the original manga in black and white are shown. Traditional Japanese elements are the kimono, the shoji windows, the calligraphy and the koto music. Meiko Kaji herself sings the theme song Shura No Hana ("Flower of Destruction").
