'Stronger' is the true story of Jeff Bauman (Jake Gyllenhaal), an ordinary man who became the symbol of hope after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, trying to regain the love of his ex-girlfriend Erin (Tatiana Maslany). To win, 27-year-old Jeff is waiting for her at the finish line of the Boston Marathon at the time of the attack and loses both legs. When he regains consciousness in the hospital, Jeff aids the police investigation by identifying one of the culprits, but his own battle has yet to begin. With the unconditional support of Erin and his family, Jeff goes through months of physical and emotional rehabilitation.

Biographical drama based on the true story of Jeff Bauman, one of the survivors of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

Cinematography: realistic light colors of life in Boston. Scenes: outside on the street, inside the hospital and at home with Jeff and his mother and later at Jeff and Erin's house. Music: alternately uplifting and occasionally dramatic. Cast: Jake Gyllenhaal plays the role of Jeff realistically and very convincingly, Tatiana Maslani plays his girlfriend Erin quite well, in addition Miranda Richardson plays Jeff's mother.

Plot: Jeff Bauman has problems in his relationship and tries to make amends by waiting for his girlfriend Erin at the finish of the marathon. An attack near the finish turns Jeff's life upside down. He survives, but will have to live on without legs....... This does not bother him and puts even more pressure on their relationship.

Summary: The film follows Jeff from just before the attack until almost the end of his rehabilitation period. In addition to the relationship problems, his struggle to learn to deal with his limitations and to have to learn to walk again is portrayed very realistically. Jeff also shows enormous personal growth and development. I thought the film was typically American: Jeff is (unintentionally) labeled as a national hero and his mother tries to take advantage of this. The movie wasn't bad, but it seemed a bit too populist imo.

Message: always make amends after a fight, because every day can be your last day and then you can no longer talk or make up for anything..... And with a strong will and a lot of perseverance you can overcome many obstacles!

The strong performance of Gyllenhaal takes the film to a decent level, because I didn't really think it was that special at first and certainly under "Patriots Day", that other movie I saw about the Boston drama.

Towards the end there was more emotion and the scene with the reliving of the attack is nevertheless strong and poignant.

The fierce drive of Americans for hero worship, with flying colors and a crowd of people, however crazy, was inevitable and you have to take in it, as well as a certain predictability, but that was difficult to avoid.

Solid.

For a long time one can avoid excessive Hollywood sentiment. The film is pretty straightforward, judging by the way the attack is portrayed. Although the story lends itself easily to that, the hassle with that marginal mother is still quite okay. This is partly due to the acting. Furthermore, Jake Gyllenhaal does okay in the lead role, but the unknown to me Tatiana Maslany plays him home anyway.
