It's not easy for a simple window cleaner. His Russian wife left him shortly after the birth of his son and he has been on his own ever since. When he hears that he has only a short time to live, he looks for adoptive parents who can give his son everything he missed during his childhood.

Director Pasolini has processed the sensitive story into a tender film without false sentiments. Especially the interaction between James Norton and the very young Daniel Lamont provides many highlights. An appealing drama that did not leave me unmoved.

Although they focus on a different subject, Nowhere special made me think of similar films (The Pursuit of Happyness (Film, 2006), [url =https://www.moviemeter.nl/film/394023]Demain Tout Commence (Film, 2016) with the characters of an adult man who is forced by circumstances to take care of a small child .

Nowhere special is a drama film, but takes it in a fairly light way so that it never gets really heavy. As a parent you want the best for your child and due to John's illness, he will look through the youth care service for the ideal adoptive parents for his son when he is no longer there. However, John's demands and excessive expectations do not lead to the desired result. Now, with some adoptive parents I also frowned, but (adoptive) parents are simply not perfect or do not 100% meet your parenting ideals. In fact, I don't think I'm achieving all of my own parenting ideals...

All in all, the film exudes a kind of feel-good quality, a bit predictable too, but this can all be covered with the cloak of love. A fine film, not a topper, but with a lot of feeling and experience.

It's heartwarming to see how people put the child's happiness above all else: the father (played well and graciously by James Norton), the people from the mediation agency, the prospective adoptive parents.

Kudos to the casting and act of the little boy who fits right into the true story, looking sensibly and exactly as if understanding the inevitable impending doom.
