Babe Stewart (Clark Gable) cheats while playing cards when a nasty cop catches him and tries to catch him. While in hiding, he meets a lonely, reluctant librarian, Connie (Carole Lombard). The two get married and return to the city. Babe starts gambling and cheating again, while his wife doesn't notice. When she does find out about his "second life", she forces him to stop. Babe feels guilty and tells that he has made the decision to turn himself in to the police...
