Microcosmos: Le Peuple de l'Herbe plot

One beautiful summer morning, biologists Claude Nuridsany and Marie Perennou descend into the jungle from a grassy field. They go in search of the inhabitants of an unknown world within the world, that of the fantastic creatures that live between the grass and on the water. Through their magnifying glass they discover a parallel micro-world where different laws apply.

Normally I'm only interested in the animal kingdom when it's purring and grunting on my lap, but this is really beautiful footage at times. Especially the scenes with the spider and the unfortunate beetle (? I really know nothing [/i]about flora and fauna) are fascinating to see. A very nice insight into the lives of our fellow residents.

3.5*.

I also thought it was a good documentary. The documentary shows the different aspects of an insect life (eg fighting beetles, mating snails and ladybugs, ...) and the small or often large obstacles they have to face every day (that dung beetle or during a heavy rain shower).

The documentary shows a lot of different insects, some more beautiful than others. Not much is spoken in the film, but the images speak for themselves. I have a lot of respect for the makers of the documentary, because how many hours should they have spent to capture all those animals in close-ups.

I certainly found it fascinating to have seen, especially to see the world from their height (eg 1 drop of water that they can hold with their paws).

Besides Bert Haanstra's Bij De Beesten Af, this is the very best nature documentary I know. Subject: the insect world. Claude Nuridsany & Marie Perennou show us an almost invisible universe as though through a magnifying glass. The images are razor-sharp and extremely detailed, we see the birth of a mosquito and a spider that catches and encapsulates a cricket in its web. The colors are overwhelming, as are the slow-motion images of flowers unfolding. And the sound is funny too: the sound of a swarm of flies sounds like a Formula 1 race, a raindrop falling into a puddle now resembles the sound of a bowling ball being thrown into the water. Would an insect hear it that way too? The film has no voice-over, but that doesn't matter because both the brilliant sound and the beautiful music support the images, a narrator would only distract you from the beautiful recordings.

Let your entomological feelings run wild and go see this movie!
