Lisa Frankenstein plot

"If you can't meet your perfect boyfriend…make him."

In 1989, Lisa Swallows is far from popular at school. The misunderstood teen accidentally resuscitates a handsome Victorian corpse during a thunderstorm and begins to build him up into the man of her dreams. She uses the broken sunbed in her garage. Soon the pair embark on a murderous journey in search of love, happiness and perhaps a few missing body parts.

Kathryn's acting performance is certainly impressive. The story is something new and different yes. But in terms of horror it is very disappointing... which is a great shame... far too little and far too well-behaved.

Only 3 horror moments in a film of more than an hour and a half... no, sorry... missed opportunity...

This is more of a teen film, not for the real seasoned horror fans.

Director Zelda Williams clearly had her own vision, especially for the content of Lisa Frankenstein, but the concepts are poorly realized. Kathryn Newton's acting in particular is too static to carry a whole like this, and it is certainly not a complex or difficult character to play. The use of color stands out positively and the content remains unpredictable at all times, but pure horror fans will certainly be satisfied with this. The embellishment and decorations of the set pieces are simply too simple (gothic horror and the current generation form an ugly combination in terms of stylization) and radiate little unique added value. The bloodshed is also very tame and the comedic notes remain almost completely ineffective, which means that the cult film ambitions honestly escape me. Cole Sprouse is doing well in the quirky supporting role, but Williams' directing qualities do not sufficiently support this. The ideas are there, but the (visual) execution remains dull, flat and uninspired.

Well, unfortunately I couldn't do much with this. I usually appreciate the work of screenwriter Diablo Cody, but this script is very bland and uninspired. Kathryn Newton does her best in the wacky leading role and the supporting cast is on a roll (half-sister Liza Soberano is especially hilarious), but the plot is disappointingly simplistic and long-winded. And there is certainly little to laugh at.
