"Will they make history... or fake it?"
The space race was in full swing in the 1960s. In the spirit of the times in which women have to fight hard against prejudices to prove themselves, Kelly Jones is part of a marketing team that has to boost NASA's image. Director of this mission is Cole Davis. The President of the United States believes it is essential that the US be the first country to win the space race, giving Kelly the assignment to create a mock moon landing.

A light-hearted film about the well-known conspiracy surrounding the moon landing. A current theme in this day and age, where AI and fake news make it more difficult than ever to determine what is true and what is not.
The film is enjoyable to watch and retains a light, nostalgic feel, despite this theme. It is mainly NASA's expertise that stands out, in addition to the entire marketing machine that was created around space travel. The film looks beautiful and the sets look believable.
Nice to see Woody Harrelson, always a nice extra. Funny detail that Kubrick is mentioned a number of times in this fictional story. According to rumors, he was the man who filmed the moon landing on the set of 2001.
What exactly is true and what is not will remain a matter of speculation.
However, this film seems to leave no room for ambiguity: we have been to the moon and all the images are real, made possible by American craftsmanship and perseverance.

After a number of Russian successes, confidence in the Apollo program dwindled considerably in 1969. Flight director Cole Davis [Channing Tatum] and his team prepare for the first moon landing, but Moe Berkus [Woody Harrelson] hires marketing expert Kelly Jones [Scarlett Johansson] on behalf of the White House to influence public opinion and that of influential politicians. so that the money tap is not turned off. Despite different interests and personalities, Cole and Kelly must learn to get along to achieve the desired outcome. The romantic subplot is predictable and unnecessary, but Johansson and Harrelson in particular are in excellent form and the finale (which puts the moon landing in a different perspective) is excellent. Johansson's husband Colin Jost (best known for 'Saturday Night Live Weekend Update') has a cameo as a paranoid senator.

Nice movie. The best part is the era, the theme and the sparkling Johansson, although Tatum continues to do a fine job. The pace is also excellent and the film is not boring. It is a pity that too much is played on the non-serious side, which makes the film lose some of its power for me. Humor is fine, but the acting was sometimes too light-hearted and too far from serious and you mainly looked at caricatures (especially Woody Harrelson). Tatum and Johansson also lack chemistry as a couple and the film lasts a bit too long. 3.0*.

Eens, de film duurt weer te lang. Wel een leuk tijdsbeeld van de jaren 60. scarJo is als vanouds leuke eyecandy en ook ChanTa mag er weer als knapperd bijlopen. Ook leuk dat de bekende conspiracy theory wordt aangehaald, waarin wordt beweerd dat de Amerikanen naar de maan zijn geweest.
