Watched this a few weeks ago.

When this remake was announced I already had a heavy head that it was going to be something and unfortunately my biggest fears have come true.

While the original from 1985 was a nice mix of comedy with horror, in fact at the same time a parody as an ode to the old-fashioned vampire films, there is little or little of that left in this new version.

Gone is the humor, in its place is only a straight forward horror story with only the idea of "neighbor is vampire" from the original as the same starting point.

Not that the film, without the humor, is really exciting. Even there he completely fails.

There is only 1 scene that is worth watching and that makes you as a viewer on the edge of your seat: the moment that the main character is in the neighbor's house and tries to get away again unseen[/ spoiler]. It was tense for a while, but unfortunately that is too little to be able to save the otherwise mediocre bid.

And that's a shame, because with that, this remake loses its own face and it is just one of the many vampire films, aimed at teenagers, that we have seen come to us in recent years.

A remake, which cannot stand in the shadow of its original and which distinguishes itself in nothing, is, in my opinion, completely superfluous.

A four or two stars.

revised.

Especially to bring back some past memories. These kinds of films always seem a bit better to me when I review them, especially when I know little or nothing about them. However, I should also have known that this could be because it wasn't that memorable on the first viewing either. Unfortunately, Fright Night is an example of this.

Nevertheless, Gillespie is a nice director and he knows how to transfer his talents strongly during this film. This creates an appropriate and strong atmosphere combined with effective use of colours. There is little wrong with cinematography and presentation, but the acting also makes a good impression. Yelchin and Poots are just a somewhat boring duo whose characters have too little distinction to keep it interesting.

This partly causes the film to falter for some time during the middle part. All that detective stuff with Farrell (who does play a good part, by the way) goes on too long and overwhelms the parts of the story that do interest well. There is enough horror to be seen with some humor, which certainly works well in the beginning. For example, I quite liked the scenes between Yelchin and Mintz-Plasse and Tennant also provides the appropriate comic note.

The finale is great and in between the film has enough qualitative scenes that keep the atmosphere in it. Unfortunately, there's also a rather boring middle section and good guys that can't compensate for the much more interesting bad guys. Gillespie regularly comes up with some nice ideas, so why it takes so long for the somewhat old-fashioned story to get some new life is a mystery to me. Other than that, entertaining enough for a pass.
