Yesterday at the DubbelFriss pre-premiere.

The film starts off nicely and you notice that the film doesn't take itself seriously at all when you see a shot of Dwayne Johnson rescuing a boy from the sea with the Baywatch logo and jumping dolphins in the background. We are then introduced to characters like Summer (Alexandra Daddario), Ronnie (Jon Bass) and CJ (Kelly Rohrbach). After this, we get to see the character Matt Brody (Zac Efron), who joins the Baywatch team. We are now 40 minutes later and we are presented with a story that is not interesting at all. Added to this are the necessary clichés and you have the movie Baywatch.

Pros:

Jon Bass, Dwayne Johnson

Chemistry between the characters

Some jokes that work well

Nice cameos

Cons:

The story

Too cliche and sweet at times

Lots of jokes that are too far fetched.

PS. First review on this site, sorry if it might not be very good

How do you make a financially successful two-hour feature film from a mediocre TV series known for wafer-thin, laughable stories?.... seemed like a hell of a job. But the makers have come a long way, in the sense that the film is not as bad as the series and indeed looks away smoothly. The choice to make a kind of parody is probably the right one, although I gradually started to get annoyed by the lax interpretation of this. The jokes and story are horribly over the top, completely abandoning the maxim that even the most unbelievable stories have to be a little believable. As a result, at a certain point you get the feeling that even the viewer is not taken seriously at all and that is almost disastrous for the film. A matter of taste perhaps, but for me the numerous jokes were so exaggerated that quite a few don't get through. Case of choosing the right storytelling but not the right tone. Someone with The Rock's stature as a lifeguard? An Olympic champion who chooses to be his sidekick? Mrs. Chopra as the bad girl? A nerd dating a divine woman[/i]? Oh yeah, we also need to let David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson walk through the picture, doesn't matter what...... ...and so it goes on and on. Reminded me of the Charlie's Angels film series at the time, had the same shortcoming: just too much childish exaggeration to be a really good film. Nevertheless, there are so many jokes in it that there are undoubtedly some that will appeal to you, so this was not a really disappointing viewing, but a possible sequel according to the same recipe seems very tiring. Small enough.
