In 1939, the American Tom Martin, who fought in the Spanish Civil War, manages to narrowly escape execution with the help of reporter Augusta Nash. Tom then tries to seduce Augusta, but she makes it clear that her career takes precedence, and Tom would rather continue fighting for freedom than settle in. But during the Second World War they grew closer and closer to each other.

the career woman trope can already be found in this film from 1940, furthermore, this light comedy, which in my opinion leans more towards drama romance than comedy, is enjoyable thanks to the excellent acting between Colbert and Milland.
